CHESS CALENDAR UPDATED

I have updated the chess calendar on the right-hand side of this website. You must use a real browser to view this site. Mobile will not show the right panel. There are 19 classes this year, culminating in the state tournament for qualifying players (Robin's group). The state tournament is Mar 18-19 and the last class (probably a pizza party) is Mar 20!

PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - 3 per class

Our class cannot operate without 3 parents helping each week. Last year we got this done!

However, we also learned that, for some reason, kids' concentration and behavior were not the same as they were pre-Covid.

This year, we need to ensure that we have 3 for every class, or we cannot hold the class.

To sign up to be a volunteer, please click on THIS LINK. Thank you.

McKinley and Whitman Chess classes will return in October!

We're happy to announce that the chess programs will be continuing this year for both McKinley Elementary and Whitman Middle Schools.

See the registration links to the right of this page.

See you in class!

McKinley takes K-3 and K-6 at Home Tournament!

At the McKinley chess tournament on Saturday, we welcomed 141 kids from Wisconsin schools. In the K-3 division, McKinley had 12 kids participating, and we won 1st place as a Team! Matthew Mazmanian took 4 out of 5 wins to win the 5th place trophy. Also in the top 10 were Drew Henak and Daniil Nikitin. In the K-6 division, McKinley had 9 kids participating, and we also won 1st place as a Team! Anthony Boettscher won 4 out of 5 games and took the 7th place trophy. Isaac Wurzburger and Priscilla Skyberg-Greer also took 4 out of 5. Our kids did great overall. Every single kid - most of them in their first tournament - won at least 1 game. GREAT JOB MCKINLEY KIDS!!!

STATE SCHOLASTIC - mark your calendars!

Did you know that McKinley is the reigning 2-time State Scholastic Champion?  We won in 2018 and 2019, which was the last time the tournament was held, due to Covid.

The amazing State Scholastic tournament will be held again on March 19-20, 2022.  Let's try to hold onto that awesome trophy!

This tournament is for advanced players with tournament experience!  Robin's group, and Kings and Queens may wish to consider going.  Let me know if you'd like to consider this awesome event!  Tournament is held at UW-Oshkosh, with some games on Saturday and a couple on Sunday morning (usually 4 on Sat, 2 on Sun to make 6 total).

Please MARK YOUR CALENDARS and LET ME KNOW if you have interest in this tournament.  It's really a lot of fun.  Lots of places for parents to hang out, and at night the kids can play in the swimming pools at the hotel!  Some parents go down Friday night, some go down early Sat morning.  First game is usually like 930AM on Sat.

Chess Game analyses being sent to some kids -

Some of the kids who are doing the homework and progressing in their lessons are getting videos sent to them, going thru a recent game they played on ChessKid.

If you'd like a game looked at, please let me know!
